One-Room Grammar School

One-Room Grammar School

The one-room schoolhouse was once a staple of American education. While rarely seen today, this model is still celebrated for the simplicity and quality of its educational form.

Neighborhood Christian Schools draws on this rich heritage with a one-room style grammar school.

A one-room model keeps school simple, and overhead low, while also providing well-attested educational benefits.

Classical education fits very nicely with a one-room model. The emphasis on memorization and repetition at the Grammar stage means younger students are confronted daily with a preview of future information as they hear older students recite memory work. Older students get a review of previous material through the same “eavesdropping” method.
